2nd Furnishing Industry Workshop: a ‘Way Forward’ to Chemicals Management

Help advise the government on realistic solutions to managing chemicals of concern in the Australian furniture and furnishing industry.

About this event

You are invited to participate in our second Industry Workshop for the project ‘Understanding and Exploring Chemicals of Concern in the Australian Furniture and Furnishing Industry’.

This project is conducted by the Australian Furniture Association (AFA), with support from Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) and the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Water, and the Environment (DAWE).

Since the introductory Industry Workshop (17th August), the Project Team has undertaken a series of industry surveys and in-depth interviews exploring existing chemicals management strategies; governing standards; barriers, opportunities, and best practice for phasing out or restricting chemicals of concern.

It is clear there are several potential solutions for the future management of chemicals in the Australian furniture and furnishing industry.

Workshop Description

Stage 2 of this project is to explore these potential solutions with key industry stakeholders in a second facilitated Industry Workshop on 5th October 2021 from 10-11.30am (AEST). It will be facilitated by Rose Read, Director of the Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence.

The purpose of the workshop is to:

  • Present the findings from the industry surveys and interviews
  • Outline and discuss potential solutions including industry support and practical implementation across the furniture and furnishing sector

Your exclusive invitation to take part in this workshop is because you are an integral and engaged stakeholder in the furniture and furnishing industry, who can articulate and contribute to exploring industry and government led solutions to phase out chemicals of concern.

Your expertise and insight will directly support the development of future industry led initiatives and Government regulations to address chemicals of concern across the furniture and furnishing industry under the new Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) and Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard (IChEMS or the National Standard).

This workshop is an opportunity for you to advocate to government on realistic solutions to managing chemicals of concern in the Australian furniture and furnishing Industry.

Please RSVP and register for the workshop by 1st October.

This invitation is not transferable.
